We’ve all been there. We decide to grab a bite from the fridge and the next thing you know, your dog is giving you puppy eyes and begging for a mouthful. 

Being a loving owner, we sometimes can’t resist such acts but since dogs and humans process food differently, we shouldexercise a bit of caution when it comes to giving our pooch a morsel. Because while we might think that what we’re eating is delicious, it could prove upsetting to your dog’s digestion or even downright toxic.

With that in mind, we’ve compiled a list of food one can easily find in the house that both you and your dog can enjoy so you can share them without worry or even use them as treats.

Eggs- While there have been a lot of myths and misconceptions about feeding eggs to your dogs, eggs are in fact one of the more nutritious foods you can give to them packing vitamins, minerals, and lots of protein. 

Salmon and Tuna- Salmon and tuna are an excellent source of protein as well as omega-3 fatty acids which help keep their skin and coat healthy. Just make sure they’re cooked thoroughly to maximize their benefits.

Blueberries and Blackberries - These fruits are rich in vitamins, minerals, fiber, and antioxidants, as well as low in calories, making them  excellent munchies for both you and your dog. So the next time you want to add some blueberry into your muffins or eat some as a snack, remember that your pooch might want some of those juicy berries too.

Apples - Sweet, crunchy, juicy, and healthy, apples are one hell of a snack, right? Your dog certainly thinks so. They provide plenty of vitamins A and C as well as lots of fiber, so don’t think twice about giving them a slice or two. Just make sure they’re free of seeds as these can be harmful.

Bananas- Ripe bananas are delicious. They are rich in fiber and minerals and can be enjoyed as is or mashed into kibble. The best part? Humans can eat them too!

Bread and Pasta- Plain bread and pasta are a great source of calories and while your dog might have already had their daily amount, it wouldn’t hurt to give them a few loaves of bread or a few strings of spaghetti.

Rice and Oats- Rice and unflavored oatmeal are both easy to digest and even help relieve an upset stomach. As with bread and pasta, however, they can cause your dog to pack on some weight. So serve them cooked rice or oatmeal in moderation with some pieces of cooked chicken, turkey, pork, or beef.

Potatoes and Sweet Potatoes- Cooked potatoes and sweet potatoes are another great way to provide your dog with fiber and calories with the latter even packing nutrients that would put some dog treats to shame.

Milk and Cheese- While these provide a number of health benefits, some dogs are lactose intolerant and can suffer digestive trouble if fed milk or cheese. Introduce cheese to their diet gradually to see if they have any problems, after which you can give them some in moderate amounts.

Peanut and Peanut Butter- Both are safe for dogs to eat but due to their high fat content as well as the alcohol compound xylitol, they should only be given in limited amounts. Also, check if there are any extra ingredients such as salt as these can be harmful to dogs if ingested in some quantity.

While these foods are perfectly safe for your dog to eat, they should not be considered as asubstitute for dog food. That being said, it is enjoyable to give them to your dog as a treat every once in a while as they can also provide dogs with vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients that are not found in most commercial kibble.
